Project: Design of New Water System with Arsenic and Fluoride Removal Facility
Owner: Woodruff Water Company
Location: Coolidge, Arizona

Description: Tres Rios is assisting a new start-up water company, Woodruff Water Company, to provide potable water for a new 3,200-acre master planned community within the City of Coolidge, Arizona. The water company's service area includes as many as 18 possible source water wells, each of varying yields and water quality. Tres Rios is preparing construction documents for Wells 1065, 1060, and a new deep source well once it's been sited by the geologist. In addition, Tres Rios will prepare a Blending Plan to help the water company maximum it's use of the source water, and minimize treatment costs.

In addition, Tres Rios is guiding Woodruff's decision regarding water treatment options. The source water wells will require treatment to remove naturally-occurring fluoride and arsenic that currently exceed Federal Safe Drinking Water levels. Tres Rios is managing the selection process by coordinating field pilot tests for Activated-Alumina and Ion Exchange-type treatment systems. Then, Tres Rios will help to permit the selected unit, and incorporate the new unit into construction documents for the water company's main Water Campus.

Project: Design of a Non-potable Water System
Owner: Woodruff Utility Company
Location: Coolidge, Arizona

Description: Tres Rios is assisting the Woodruff Utility Company, to provide non-potable water for a master planned community in Coolidge, Arizona. The non-potable water system is required to provide irrigation supplies for parcel tracts, right-of-way landscaped areas, and turfed areas like those planned for school playgrounds and recreational parks. Non-potable water is a blend of raw groundwater and Class A+ effluent from the wastewater treatment plant.

Tres Rios is helping to coordinate the planning and design of the system. Planning work includes estimating peak summer irrigation needs, determining the system capacity, locating lake-fill transmission mains and features, and enabling communications with the wastewater treatment plant and groundwater wells. Design work includes development of a water supply storage lake which also provides recreational uses, and a booster pump station.

Project: Water and Wastewater System Expansion
Owner: URS Corporation / Phelps Dodge Corporation
Location: Jerome, Arizona

Description: Tres Rios is providing sub-consultant services to URS Corporation for design of a new water and wastewater system expansion in Jerome, Arizona. The new water and wastewater expansion will replace leaking water mains and establish new sanitary sewer connections for buildings owned by Phelps Dodge on their 300-Level mining project. The seemingly straight-forward design is complex, though, since Jerome's water system has many elevation levels and pressure-zones, very few as-built drawings, and old weathered existing mains. Tres Rios helped URS to develop a field work plan, evaluate potholing and fire hydrant testing data, layout the proposed pipe system, and run and verify a new WaterCAD model.
